Match reports
Hornsea RUFC 11.01.09
At Beverley RUFC

The last time the Hornsea U9’s played, was October the 19th at Pocklington, since then all matches have
been cancelled due to weather conditions, so with the hard frost of Saturday the 10th of January we
thought we would have to wait a bit longer.
This was not to be the case as overnight the frost had gone and the pitches were playable.

Although the frost had gone it was still a cold morning at Beverley.

We were to play Beverley, Goole and Bridlington.

Squad
Spike Cawston, Jake Cooper, Declan Fletcher, Brandon Hirst, Brandon Legget, George Micklethwaite, Alex
Morris, Ryan Postill, Jack Robinson and Will Ulliott.

The first match was against Goole, we knew this would be the hardest fixture of the day as they are always
a well drilled unit.  They had not had the long lay off form games as we had and as the match started they
scored two quick tries due to a bit of rustiness from the Hornsea players. Once we had settled down
however the play became much more even and the Hornsea forwards kept attacking the Goole line but
stout defence by the Goole players kept the Hornsea players out. In the second half some poor tackling
allowed Goole to score again and an excellent solo try by one of the Goole players finished the game off at
4-0

Between matches the players were spoken to about the tackling and hoped we would not suffer a repeat in
the second game.

The second match was against Beverley, who started strongly scoring on almost their first move taking the
Hornsea players by surprise, this was however to be their last try as The Hornsea team burst up the field
and when tackled, kept on their feet and mauled the Beverley side back across their own line before
peeling off and scoring the try.
The tackling in the second game was much better, with all the players making great tackles. In the second
half Hornsea again mauled the ball over the line to score a second try, before finishing with a third, to end
the match 3-1.

We were supposed to play Bridlington however they decided to play Beverley U10’s instead.

Overall a good day, with things to work on for the match against Hessle in two weeks.
