HORNSEA HAVE TOO MUCH STEEL FOR STOCKSBRIDGE

Yorkshire Silver Trophy Round 1

Stocksbridge  12        Hornsea  15

Hornsea progressed to the second round of the Yorkshire Silver Trophy with a hard fought victory by 15
points to 12 against a determined home side.  Two completely different styles of play were on view with
Hornsea playing an open fast game and Stocksbridge playing a tight mauling based gameplan.  It was
Hornsea who opened the scoring with two trys in the space of five minutes.  Captain Matt Havler was the
first to get on the scoresheet with a powerful run through two tacklers, then Tom Copeland used his pace
to beat his man and score out wide, with Rich Hellstrom converting to give Hornsea a 12 – 0 lead.  Close to
half time Stocksbridge pulled a try back with a rolling maul try which was converted.

The second half was a very scrappy affair with both sides making mistakes but it was Stocksbridge who
next got on the scoresheet to bring the scores level with another rolling maul try.  The game looked as if it
was heading for extra time until Hornsea were awarded a penalty close the to Stocksbridge twenty two, fly
half Rich Hellstrom skilfully kicked the penalty to give Hornsea the lead and the victory.
