YORKSHIRE FOUR

HORNSEA  7                HESSLE  57

Hessle recorded their thirteenth successive victory to remain unbeaten and runaway leaders of Yorkshire
division four after comfortably disposing of local rivals Hornsea.  It was Hornsea who opened the scoring
after just six minutes through centre Rob Wells, his centre partner Steve Crook made a fine break before
chipping through with Wells outpacing the Hessle defence to score out wide with Hellstrom skilfully adding
the extras.  Hessle bounced back almost immediately and took control of the game scoring five
unanswered trys in the first half.  The Hornsea pack stuck to their task and were the better scrumaging
side and in the tight, but Hessle controlled the lineout department and their backline, littered with former
professional players, always looked dangerous with ball in hand.  The second half was a similar affair to
the first with Hessle controlling the game scoring a further four trys, however, Hornsea did have some
sustained spells of pressure in the Hessle twenty two but were unable to breach the visitors line.  Speaking
shortly after the game, Hornsea captain Matt Havler said, “ To be fair Hessle were playing at another level
to us, however we stuck to our guns and stayed committed to the end and there were some positives to
take out of the game, especially the scrum and the performance of our young substitutes Phil Barr and
Mark Thomas.  Financially Hessle are currently in a strong position which has allowed them to bring in
several new players this season, which is the major factor of their success, however, we are a home grown
side and, with the exception of Hessle, continue to compete well in this division”.
