HORNSEA GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS

HORNSEA  21        BURLEY  19

Hornsea got back to winning ways on Saturday with a tight victory over a well organised Burley side by 21
points to 19.  Playing with the wind in the first half Hornsea took the lead after eight minutes with a well
struck penalty from fly half Rich Hellstrom following Burly being penalised for coming in from the side at the
ruck.  The Hollismen increased their lead with a fine try on the twenty minute mark  through their full back
after Hellstrom had made the initial break.  In the final play of the half Burley latched on to poor pass in the
Hornsea centres and raced away to score to bring the scoreline to 8 – 5 in Hornsea’s favour.

Half Time        Hornsea  8        Burley  5

Burley came out fighting in the second half and took the lead on the fifty minute mark through their number
eight following a solid forward drive, the try was converted. The next twenty minutes was end to end stuff
with both sides having chances but often the final pass was put down in this error stricken half.  However, it
was Hornsea who regained the lead on the seventy minute mark as the Hornsea backs finally got their act
together with some crisp handling which saw leading try scorer Martyn Pace race his way to the line,
Hellstrom converted.  In the following five minutes Hellstrom added a penalty and a well struck drop goal to
give Hornsea a nine point advantage and seal the game.  Burley’s never say die attitude was rewarded as
they scored a try under the Hornsea posts with the final play of the game which was duly converted.
Hornsea will need to improve on this performance in time for next week’s local derby against league
leaders Hessle.
