HONOURS EVEN AT HEMSWORTH

Hornsea maintained their undefeated start to the season with a hard fought draw away from home at
undefeated Hemsworth. It was Hornsea who opened the scoring through wing Martyn Pace after ten
minutes through a flowing move through the backs with good hands from Hellstrom, Wells and Clark.
Hemsworth hit back soon after this with a try from a rolling maul close to the Hornsea line which seemed
their only weapon of attack. Hornsea bounced back into the lead shortly after this with a try from centre
Steve Crook. Danny Morris and Sam Clare took the ball into the Hemsworth twenty two, and then a clever
break from Hellstrom saw him pass a neat ball to Crook who touched down in the corner. Hornsea captain
Matt Havler extended Hornsea’s lead after a barnstorming twenty yard run saw him score under the posts.
Again it was the Honsea backs who created the space, this time by Danny Cook and Max Clark and Havler
was on hand to take the pass from Clark and power his way over the line taking two would be defenders
with him, Hellstrom converted. In the dying seconds of the half Hemsworth again scored through a rolling
maul close to the Hornsea line with their very heavy pack.

The second half was a more even affair with both sides having chances to win the game. Hemsworth
opened the scoring, again from a rolling maul close to the Hornsea line but the conversion attempt was
missed. Hornsea extended their lead on the sixty minute mark through Max Clark as he showed great
pace and power to crash his way over the line to give Hornsea a seven point lead. Hemsworth again
bounced back with just ten minutes to go through their heavy pack with the conversion attempt being
successful to tie the scores. In the closing stages both sides had opportunities but the draw was probably
the correct scoreline. Although disappointed to not come away with both points Hornsea maintained their
unbeaten start to the season and will look to continue this week when they entertain Old Otliensians at the
Rec.
